Humanity has a long history of spiritual existence - both secular and religious. Most - but not all - put this existence above the physical, calling on it to direct and support choices and actions. Yet many human choices and actions are automatic/habitual, instinctual or otherwise not thought about or in any way considered.
Choices and actions define us. What underpins these will only become evident to friends and questioners who have earnt our trust, and even to ourselves only when reviewed or analysed - a form of mindfulness.
'Mindfulness' may be applied to this raised awareness of both why we do things and how we do things as we attempt to transcend the physical origins of our behaviours.
Only when we insert mindfulness before action or choice can we transcend our most basic instinctual, habitual and automatic behaviours. To do this will change the world in which we live.
If we do not like any thing about our world it can be changed by us. But only if we overcome - or transcend - our physical origins. Now do we enter the moral or the spiritual or another place to achieve this?
That is my next installment.....
